Stephen Thompson: A final run at gold
‘Wonderboy’ Thompson is on a two-fight win streak and is 3-2 since his title fight saga against Tyron Woodley. He defeated Vicente Luque and Geoff Neal in his last two outings and has solidified his number 4 ranking. With a win over the number 2 ranked Gilbert Burns, Stephen Thompson will virtually guarantee his place in the title conversation.
Leon Edwards will be the x-factor going forward as Colby Covington has already secured the next title shot. Edwards’ recent victory over Nate Diaz wasn’t enough to secure a title shot over ‘Chaos’ Covington. For all intents and purposes, the race to the finish line will be contested between Stephen Thompson and Leon Edwards.

The MMA community has predicted that Thompson’s fighting style could potentially give Kamaru Usman problems. ‘Wonderboy’ is not an easy outing for anyone and his wide karate stance has posed issues for several opponents. Usman’s striking is crisp and fundamental and he would be wary of the looks that Thompson will show.
Not to mention, he’s the only fighter in the top 5 who Kamaru Usman hasn’t faced yet. Fans are looking forward to seeing a fresh match-up and Thompson has the tools to make things interesting.
