Leon Edwards will fight Belal Muhammad in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card this weekend. After multiple cancellations of his proposed bout against Khamzat Chimaev, ‘Rocky’ has an opponent in ‘Remember The Name’. Muhammad is coming off a win against Dhiego Lima at UFC 258.

Rocky defeated Rafael dos Anjos in 2019 to extend his winning streak to 8 in the welterweight division of the UFC. He hasn’t competed since. There are an array of fighters that fans want to see Edwards face. One of them was none other than Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal. But Edwards believes the Miami native wants no part of him.

Speaking to The Schmo recently, Edwards said, “He turned it down. He claims himself the BMF. Every time the UFC goes to him with my name, he goes running and makes excuses, you know what I mean? His days are coming, here we cannot wait to get the fight underway, and I will show the world that he is in nowhere compared to me.

Edwards and Masvidal have a brief history between them. In a UFC Fight Night event in London in March 2019, both men were involved in a backstage scuffle when Edwards interrupted Masvidal’s interview with Laura Sanko. ‘Gamebred’ proceeded to hit Edwards with his famous ‘3-piece and a soda’ combo.

The plot for a potential fight was set right then, but it is yet to materialize.

Should Leon Edwards get a title shot if he wins this weekend?

Edwards is on the second-longest active winning streak at the moment in the welterweight division, behind only champion Kamaru Usman. It’s hard to disagree that he will deserve a title shot next, especially if he beats Muhammad next. However, there is a possibility that Usman may fight Masvidal next to defend his belt.

Edwards wants to stay active and doesn’t want to wait for the winner of that fight. So, a fight against Colby ‘Chaos‘ Covington in the meantime might be a good idea for ‘Rocky’. But he needs to focus on the job at hand for now.
