French native Ciryl Gane just picked up an impressive win over Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 to become the interim heavyweight champion of the world. Bon Gamin will now get ready to face the reigning champion of the division, Francis Ngannou.

Undoubtedly one of the more intriguing matchups in the division, Francis Ngannou vs Ciryl Gane has all the makings of a classic heavyweight matchup. On one hand, we have the predator with concussive power in both hands. While on the other is Ciryl Gane, who moves in and out of range like a middleweight.

Interestingly, Stephen Wonderboy Thompson is of the opinion that the French man will get his hand raised in a fight against the predator. The beloved UFC welterweight made the following statement to back up his claim.

” I think Gane can definitely go out there and do it. I mean, from his performance, the way he stays calm, the way he can take blows and just adapt to his opponent mid-fight is just amazing. So, I’m going with Gane as well. Now can Francis go out there and just go, first-round and knock you out, yes absolutely, that’s there. But I feel like his IQ is just too good for that. He won’t let him do that, he’ll be ready for it.”

Wonderboy’s assertions seem pretty accurate, at least on paper. Gane has repeatedly displayed an ability to keep the fight at the range he wants. His 6’4 inch frame makes him much more intimidating than most of Ngannou’s previous opponents.

In many ways, this could be Francis Ngannou’s toughest fight to date. Ngannou and his team will have to make the necessary adjustments for this tactical heavyweight, who is now 10-0 in the UFC. Or risk losing the belt he worked so hard to earn.
