The UFC is a cruel place. Not because of the nature of the sport but because of the cut-throat competition that exists amongst every stratum of fighters. In a dog-eat-dog world, every fighter in UFC is always aiming for the top spot – the division championship title. That is why, a champion who defends his title or wins it back after losing it, truly demands the respect of being counted among some of the greats of that division.

Former UFC champ Amanda Nunes really made a statement before she walked away from the promotion after UFC 289. Nunes, who is often referred to as ‘The Lioness’, had been the UFC women’s champion for a long time until she lost to Julianna Pena. However, adamant and driven as she is, Nunes made sure she did something about it and got back her title in a rematch.

Nunes’ comeback title match at UFC 289 was the main event of the night. Her dominant win against Irene Aldana proved beyond measure that Nunes is one of the most complete and proficient Featherweight fighters in the women’s division, if not the most. Slated to originally face her former foe, Julianna Pena, Nunes had been readying herself for another redemption.

However, the match fell through due to an injury sustained by Pena and Aldana stepped up. After crushing Aldana at the main event, Nunes announced her retirement. However, she was far from dissociating herself from the UFC. She made a tweet taunting the entire Featherweight roster.

Losing it, winning it back, and then giving it up: Nunes’ emphatic statement

From the looks of it, Nunes’ last run in the UFC has been a mockery of the entire division. After she lost her Featherweight title to Julianna Pena at UFC 269, she decided to retire from the UFC. However, a change of heart brought her right back into the Octagon with vengeance and she made sure to get back her belt at UFC 277 from Pena.

Post that, she proved herself once against Irene Aldana. So while it has been a beautiful run for Nunes, her story feels almost complete.

Another piece of interesting news that has been doing rounds is that Nunes is planning on taking her talents to WWE. With UFC and WWE both being under the same umbrella, now seems as good a time as ever to be making that move. While there is no confirmation from either party, Nunes has openly admitted her willingness to sign on with the WWE if the contract is agreeable.
