“How Can We Even Understand What’s Going On in Their Minds.” Taila Santos Criticizes the Judges for UFC 275 Split-Decision Loss to Valentina Shevchenko

With the recent UFC 275 card done and dusted, some fans thought that the judging could’ve been better. Especially in the case of Valentina Shevchenko’s fight against Taila Santos. The judges awarded Shevchenko the victory, but fans had mixed reactions. Santos also bashed the judges in a new interview.

Santos appeared on the new episode of ‘MMA Hour With Ariel Helwani’. The two discussed a cluster of topics, and in one segment, Santos explained what she thought of the fight after a re-watch.

She said, “I believe that I won the first three rounds upon that first watch. But let’s be honest, I didn’t really watch it scoring, so, you know, there might be some bias to my judgment. But I think I did enough for the first few rounds to win it.”

Santos then criticized the judges of her fight. She added, “On the fourth round, I did get a takedown and get a little bit of control there, but you know, considering one of the judges didn’t even give me first round, you know. How can we even understand what’s going on in their minds?”

Taila Santos has six fights in the UFC, of which she has won four. She currently has a professional record of 19 wins and only two losses.

Santos lost her first fight in the UFC back in 2019. She then made a comeback and proved the haters wrong as she powered through her next three opponents. With these three wins, Santos rose higher in the rankings of the women’s flyweight division.

She then fought Joanne Wood and secured the victory via a rear-naked choke submission in the very first round. This four-fight winning streak helped her earn a title shot against Shevchenko. With this fight done and dusted, Santos is currently ranked #2 in the women’s flyweight division.

Santos is now in a position where the UFC could plan a rematch for her against Shevchenko because of her impressive performance. She could also fight against the likes of top contenders such as – Katlyn Chookagian and Jessica Andrade.
