“How Many Scars Can One Man Endure?”: Ex-UFC Star Ben Askren’s Gruesome Injury Concerns MMA Fans

Retired UFC fighter Ben Askren got a severe cut on one of his eyelids while sparring with a student. ‘Funky’ was reportedly sparring with an NCAA wrestler Mitchell Mesenbrink and found himself getting hurt. Askren took to Instagram to share the aftermath of the sparring session.

Ben ‘Funky’ Askren is a decorated All-American wrestler. He wrapped up his wrestling career with a record of 153 wins and only 8 losses. Askren also won the Big 12 Championships three times. He was also the first ever 4-time All-American from the University of Missouri. However, after his retirement from UFC, he started training his students full-time at Askren Wrestling Academy.

Askren recently took to Instagram to show a cut above his right eye that he picked up while training with an up-and-coming wrestler, Mitchell Mesenbrink. ‘Funky’ had to get a few stitches to sort his injury out.

Social media users saw a similar sight to Ben Askren’s injury and compared it to the time he was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal with the famous knee KO. However, there were a lot of people who expressed their concern over the gruesome injury.

MMA fans on Instagram took a lot of shots at Ben Askren for his eyelid getting busted and didn’t hold back in reminding him of his 5-second knockout. Fans even went as far as to comment that he might have had a confrontation with Jorge Masvidal and that Askren was hiding that fact. However, some fans expressed their concern over his injury and commended Askren for standing strong after receiving so many scars.

He boasted a record of 19 wins and two losses in MMA. However, he is most famously known for getting knocked out by Jorge Masvidal. Fans never fail to remind him about it. But it doesn’t seem to faze ‘Funky.’ He is known to be one of the nicest people in MMA.
