Sean O’Malley is heading into his next bout against Marlon Vera for redemption. Both Sean and Vera are coming off a win. O’Malley with his belt-winning victory against ‘Aljo’ and Vera defeated Pedro Munhoz on the same night at UFC 292. The fighters took home large sums of money but of course, ‘Suga’ made a lot more. O’Malley is said to have earned about $1.43 million from the last time he went all out against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292.

Now, O’Malley holds the belt and perhaps his demand has increased. He is likely to take home about $2 million after UFC 299. A whopping $13.75 million is expected to be welcomed in the next pay-per-view, according to CEO Dana White. This amount already puts UFC 299 at number 4 rank after UFC 205, 229, and 264. Interestingly, all three of these pay-per-views had one big thing in common. And that was the star power of none other than Conor McGregor.

In a press conference earlier this month, ‘Suga’ said he would come out on top and knock out ‘Chito’ Vera. “Let him kick my legs all he wants. My leg will hit his head,” he expressed. Meanwhile, Marlon Vera called O’Malley a clown and said, “Ecuador will have its first world champion.”

The two previously fought back in 2020 when Vera handed O’Malley his first professional loss. ‘Suga’ was defeated by a technical knockout at 4:40 of the first round. There have been 13 fights, 9 Performance Bonuses, and countless highlights while moving up the bantamweight ladder. Now, if O’Malley continues to win, will he manage to parallel the popularity of the Irishman? All we do know is he’s coming for the win.

In the recent UFC 299 presser, Sean O’Malley claimed that he had a cool state of mind heading into the fight. It wasn’t because he’d found some sort of monk-like peace ahead of the fight but, it was because he was confident that he would win. He said, “I’m very calm going into this fight. It’s easy to be calm when you know you’re going to knock someone the f*** out.” He even told the press how he wouldn’t mind knocking him out two times indicating that he was open to a trilogy of sorts.

However, Vera is just as confident. He told the press how he’d been with the UFC for “10 years” and that he was glad for the opportunity he had received. Will he come out on top? What is your take? Let us know in the comments section below.
