Khamzat Chimaev has undoubtedly been among the, if not the biggest, break-out fighters last year. After huge wins over Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland, the 28-year-old has set himself up as one of the most exciting names in the promotion. Chimaev, now ranks number 3 in the welterweight division, had probably the biggest win of his career when he beat former title contender Gilbert Burns in a three-round slugfest at UFC 273. Now the Swede is back where he spent a part of the camp for that fight in Phuket, Thailand.

Although Chimaev trains out of Allstar gym in Sweden, he also spends a good amount of time in Phuket. Tiger Muay Thai has some of the top UFC athletes like Petr Yan, Alexander Volkanovski etc. visiting the gym for their camps. Thus, it’s not a surprise that Chimaev also spends a considerable amount of time here. The famed gym in Thailand recently posted a huge update about Chimaev’s return.

Although there has been no official announcement of Chimaev’s upcoming fights, the Russian-born fighter is expected to make a run for the title this year. The 28-year-old, no doubt, needs to stay in fighting shape throughout the year if he plans on climbing up the rankings. Thus it’s not surprising that he returned to Thailand to stay sharp, as claimed by the gym’s recent tweet.

In a fresh post on the gym’s Twitter profile, they welcomed the undefeated fighter back to the gym: “Welcome back to Tiger Muay Thai to Khamzat Chimaev! Khamzat spent a large portion of his fight camp here at Tiger Muay Thai to prepare for his victory over Gilbert Burns last year, and is now back here to stay sharp while awaiting his next bout to be confirmed.”

Chimaev vs Burns was one of the best fights of 2022 which saw the two welterweights battle their heart out in a bloody slugfest. Gilbert Burns gave the undefeated star a true test of his mental and physical limits. Although Chimaev emerged victorious, he was quick to commend the Brazilian’s toughness.
