This year, Marcelo Garcia, a renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach, and practitioner, was diagnosed with stomach cancer. The news distressed the MMA community. However, 5-time ADCC champion Gordon Ryan stepped up to help Garcia financially, as he shared a post in that regard on Instagram and fans have reacted to it.

Marcelo Garcia is one of the best BJJ grapplers the sport has ever seen. He is a four-time ADCC champion. Furthermore, he is a fourth-degree black belt and arguably the best pound-for-pound submission grappler ever. With his ongoing cancer treatment, Gordon Ryan took the initiative to help him out in his own way.

‘The King’ has had his fair share of stomach struggles over the past year. In that regard, he has stepped up to help Garcia with his stomach cancer treatment. Both No Gi grapplers share a cordial relationship, and as such, Gordon Ryan held a seminar with his friends and family, who traveled all over the world. Moreover, the best part about the seminar was that all the money earned from the event will go directly into the treat of Marcelo Garcia’s cancer treatment. Figures from the MMA community and fans on social media have a lot of positive things to say about this generous gesture. Let us have a look at some of those reactions.

Fans react to Gordon Ryan helping out Marcelo Garcia with his cancer treatment

A lot of notable MMA figures commented on Ryan’s post. Fellow grappler Bernardo Faria commended the generous act and mentioned how both Garcia and Ryan have 38 ADCC submissions and 9 ADCC championships between them. He commented, “So cool Gordon!! If Im not wrong there are 38 Adcc submissions on this picture and 9 Adcc Gold Medals! You guys changed the no gi grappling and it might take 100 years for another Gordon and Marcelo to be born…”

Vagner Rocha commented and called Garcia the best BJJ practitioner. He said, “MG is the [goat].” Furthermore, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong also praised Gordon Ryan for his initiative and said, “what a gesture! amazing, gordon!” In addition to that, UFC fighter Michael Chiesa called ‘The King’ a good man. The fans had a lot of great things to say about Gordon Ryan, as he inspired them with the initiative he took for Marcelo Garcia. Moreover, they also believe that Gordon and Garcia are two of the most influential grapplers when it comes to No Gi. They were happy to see the 5-time champion helping out the ‘original goat’ of ADCC. One fan even commented that Ryan’s post was the best post he’s seen on social media in a while. They all hope that both grapplers recover soon from their ailments.

On May 23, Garcia underwent surgery to remove cancerous tissue. In a later update on his Instagram page, he noted that the surgery went well. He mentioned that the tissue had been dead when it was removed. As Marcelo Garcia’s fans hope for a speedy recovery, it remains to be seen how things unfold in the days to come.
