Most UFC fans have probably come across the name ‘American Top Team’ at some point in their journey of following MMA. Starting from the coveted former UFC Welterweight kingpin, Tyron Woodley, to the famed current BMF contender, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier. A number of athletes training under the ‘American Top Team’ have showcased their mettle before the MMA world. However, this list also used to boast another coveted UFC fighter that recently declared estrangement from the ‘Coconut Creek, Florida-based Martial Arts Academy’.
Almost all of us have the desire to be independent. In the case of MMA fighters, they often tend to set up their own training facilities so that they can train without worrying about certain regulations and boundaries. The ‘ATT’-estranged UFC star being talked about here is none other than the former UFC champ-champ, Amanda Nunes. Recently, ‘The Lioness’ caught up with the famed UFC play-by-play commentator, Jon Anik, for an ‘ESPN MMA’ talk show. Along with a number of other issues, Nunes also described the time when she finally decided to part ways with ‘ATT’.

This decision from Amanda Nunes was fueled by her own wish
It’s a known fact that most MMA fighters love challenges. In her time with Anik on ‘ESPN MMA’, Nunes also revealed she had always dreamt of having her own training facility. It was a challenge that she wanted to take on. Hence, it may be said that this was the primary reason for ‘The Lioness’s’ parting ways with ‘ATT’.
Nunes started off talking about setting up her own gym, saying, “Just a matter of time to put a lot of ideas in my mind. First of all, was the gym. I already had that idea for so long”.

She continued, “But, when I drove back I make strong you know. And me always like, call everybody, call tatami, call who has the cages and everything. And soon we arrive in Florida and we have everything for the gym set.”
Further, Nunes also described how one of the important ‘ATT’ personalities, Dan Lambert, had also helped her in setting up her own gym. The ‘Brazilian native’ stated, “And we did everything, I talked to Dan[Lambert] as well. He helped me a lot”.
A lot of fans might view this as a really noble gesture from Dan Lambert. A lot inside ‘ATT’ could have refused Nunes, knowing that she would leave them after setting up her own gym. But Lambert didn’t.
Amanda Nunes clarified there was nothing wrong between her and American Top Team
Following her description of setting up the gym, she also disclosed that there was nothing “wrong” between her and ‘ATT”. Also, there were no factors forcing her to leave. Instead, it was her own choice. Nunes iterated, “American Top Team don’t get me wrong. I just wanna move on in my life. It’s nothing that’s wrong. But, I just wanna like, move on to see what is there in my own.”

A lot of UFC fans might realize and support this decision from Nunes’. Although ‘ATT’s’ quality and class can never be questioned, still it may be agreed that training may become easier when the entire facility is under your ownership. But will Nunes find the same ‘ATT” quality of training in her own gym?
