Dustin Poirier is gearing up for an all-out war at UFC 291. ‘The Diamond’ will face Justin Gaethje in the main event on July 29. As Poirier prepares to go to war with ‘the human highlight reel,’ he had a look back at another marquee fight that never took place. For Poirier, the fight that got away is Nate Diaz. Poirier and Diaz were scheduled to fight at UFC 230 in November 2018. Unfortunately, Poirier had to withdraw from the bout with an undisclosed injury. Unlucky for Poirier and the fans, the fight never came together after that.
Five years later, Poirier is getting ready to fight for the BMF belt that Diaz practically spoke into existence. Meanwhile, Diaz is out of the UFC and getting ready for a boxing showdown against Jake Paul in August.
In a recent interview, the former UFC interim lightweight champion looked back at the Nate Diaz fight. He gave his thoughts on Diaz’s upcoming fight and looked at the possibility of fighting Diaz before all is said and done.

Dustin Poirier talks about fighting Nate Diaz
Dustin Poirier appeared in a recent episode of Ariel Helwani’s ‘The MMA Hour’ to discuss his upcoming fight against Justin Gaethje. The 34-year-old talked about his fight camp plans, his expectations for the fight and future plans after the fight.
During the interview, he answered questions about Diaz vs. Paul and gave his thoughts on ever fighting Diaz again. Poirier said, “Look, I want everybody to be paid and succeed, whether it’s in this organization or that. I don’t care. We’re putting it all on the line up there.”
He continued, “So, I hope he got whatever he was looking for. Hope it all works out, you know? Hope he gets paid. Yeah, of course. I always wanted to fight him, man.” He added, “Never say never but it looks like it’s, you know, it’s gone.”
‘The Diamond’ also said he would watch Diaz’s boxing venture. Surprisingly, he gave the “younger, bigger, faster” Jake Paul the edge over Diaz in the upcoming fight.
