“I Am in” – Conor McGregor Responds to a UFC Call Out

Despite being retired, Conor McGregor is still part of the UFC’s pound-for-pound and lightweight rankings. This is down to his immense drawing power. The UFC talent recognizes the same and continues to call him out despite not being an active fighter on the UFC roster. 

One of these fighters is UFC welterweight Diego Sanchez. The 38-year-old hinted at retirement and called out the UFC’s first simultaneous two-division champion for a fight.

The Irish fighter accepted the challenge and in a stunning twist, he revealed that he called for the fight in February. Notorious‘ wrote, “To Diego Sanchez… I seen your recent comments about your final bout and I am in! After you fought Pereira, I had requested for myself and you to compete in Dublin. This was back in February when I was working on opposition for my season, pre covid. Good luck this weekend!”

‘The Nightmare’ Sanchez takes on 26-year-old Jake Matthews on the UFC 253 preliminary card. A good showing at the Flash Forum can help him make a stronger claim for the mega-money fight against Conor McGregor.

Diego Sanchez beat Michel Pereira at Fight Night: Anderson vs Blachowicz. He impressed McGregor, who named him as a potential opponent the very next day.

‘Notorious’ who reigned at the upper echelons of the sport is not easily impressed. Hence, ‘The Nightmare’s’ showing may have been something sensational which was worthy praise from one of the best.

Based on the chats, Dana White wasn’t on board with the fight in February. However, things change and the UFC could look to reward their 15-year veteran with a top fight. Furthermore, they could give McGregor the fight he wants to lure him back to the company. Hence, despite the fight not materializing in 2020, it could be on the UFC’s agenda for 2021.
