“I didn’t get lucky. I wasn’t gifted a belt. I fought for five rounds forward,” said Sean Strickland as he prepared for his clash against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 312. It would not be wrong to say that the former middleweight champion has waited long enough for his rematch against the South African champion. But what bothers Strickland the most? It’s the layoffs between fights. ‘Tarzan’ is a man who lives to compete, and if there’s no battle for him to conquer, it becomes nothing but a burden to him.
During a conversation with the media at the pre-fight press conference, the former middleweight champion gave a pep talk, urging the media to wake up each morning, look at themselves, “When you wake up every day and look in the mirror, you ask yourself, “Hey, what will make me happy?” Like, I have money, I don’t have to worry about making my fu–ing mortgage—what will make me happy?
He further added, “I’m the most fu—- miserable. Like, I am the fu— most miserable when I’m not in pain and I’m not dieting. So, I think the hardest thing when you have these long layoffs is you wake up, you’re still training, you’re going through the steps, but you’re kind of like, “Hey, what’s going to make Sean happy?” And it’s fu—- miserable.”

While having a conversation on his YouTube handle, the former light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion emphasized that Sean Strickland should just man up and accept his defeat. “There was a headbutt in the first fight that Sean Strickland said changed the trajectory of the fight. He said that it made it more difficult for him to compete the way he did.”Cormier pointed out during a chat with Chael Sonnen in Good Guy/Bad Guy.
In Cormier’s opinion, “He’s [Sean] harping on it too much, at least in my opinion.” Daniel Cormier has fought enough opponents in his life to understand how a fighter feels after a close call defeat but according to him, it is rather toxic to stick with that loss. Given that, as Sean Strickland is prepping to clash against the champion once again, who do you think will be the ultimate winner? State your thoughts in the comments below.
