“I Can’t Sit Here and Say I Am a Better Promoter Than Dana White” – ‘Best Promoter in Boxing’ Eddie Hearn

In the world of Combat Sports, fans are always intrigued by the fighters and their stories. Due to this, the role of a promoter is often underappreciated. From organizing an entire event to managing the athletes competing in it, promoters are the people who make sure fans enjoy a great event. UFC President Dana White has often been under the scanner by both MMA fans and fighters.

While White often receives criticism for various things, he is not appreciated by many for his work behind the UFC. However, Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Boxing praised White and revealed why he can’t consider himself to be a better promoter than Dana White.

While sitting down with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Fighting podcast, Eddie Hearn said, “I am not in awe of Dana White, but I have huge respect for him as a promoter. So if you say to me, are you the best promoter in boxing, it’s not even close, genuinely, not even close. But, Dana White, I see, is a trailblazer. Not just as a promoter, but in terms of the business, the brand, the way that sport or the brand has penetrated the global combat market…I can’t sit here and say I am a better promoter than Dana White.”

In the business of Combat Sports, where there is often a lot of heat between fighters and promoters, it is good to see Eddie Hearn show so much respect to Dana White. White is a veteran in the business and is a big reason why the UFC is where it is today.

A look at Dana White’s career in brief.

Born on July 28, 1969, Dana White has been around the world of combat sports for a very long time. He used to train in the sport of boxing and he also used to manage other fighters.

In 2001, the previous owners of the UFC were looking to sell the company. When White got to know of this, He became interested. In January 2001, White along with his childhood friend Lorenzo and his older brother Frank purchased the UFC for $2 million. Immediately after purchase, White was named President.

Since then, till now, the UFC has seen tremendous growth under Dana White. White has been able to grow the UFC and the sport of MMA globally. In 2015, the gross revenue of the company was a whopping $600 million. In 2016, White sold the UFC to WME-IMG for a sum of 4.025 billion dollars. After the purchase, WME-IMG reinstated White as president and he was also given some stake in the new business.

The president of the UFC also tried his hand in the business of boxing when he co-promoted the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

Under White, The UFC has seen tremendous success. He has managed to grow the brand of the UFC to a level where the UFC is a synonym of MMA. It is because of the efforts of Dana White, that fans can enjoy the marvelous events put up by the UFC.
