UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal is closing in on two decades of a long MMA career. Looking back at a career that started off from backyard brawls with the legendary Kimbo Slice, ‘Gamebred’ has indeed covered a long distance. Now, as he inches closer to another big fight at UFC 287 against Gilbert Burns; the veteran, in a conversation with MMA Junkie, stated his belief that the stars might have aligned yet again for him to make a big statement. Considering that he is coming off three consecutive losses, this might even come as a surprise for fans. But knowing Masvidal and his rivalry with current Welterweight champion Leon Edwards, he might just have another opportunity to make a final title run again.

The 38-year-old during the interview also looked back into his career and talked about how there were multiple scenarios that would have forced him into hanging up his gloves. But he expressed his confidence with the fact that his next fight was in his city, and that a win could even get him closer to a title shot.

During the interview, Masvidal looked back at his career and expressed his amazement that the UFC was coming back to his city right as he was about to reach his 20th year in the sport. He pointed out that since he had multiple opportunities to retire due to injuries and other stuff; the UFC 287 taking place in Miami might just mean that things were coming together for him once again.

“Twenty years later, and now the UFC returns to my city. And it just so happens to be that I’m still fighting. I could’ve retired in many different occasions due to injuries, you know. All kinds of things that happen in this sport. So it’s like all the stars are aligning, and the universe is giving me this. It wants me to go through this.” stated Masvidal.

“All the stars need to align again. I’d go to the U.K. again because I’d like to give him a beating in his own backyard. I’m going to take his head off, and that’s it. That’s what I envision every day.” explained Masvidal.

Ultimately, the 38-year-old clearly is not lacking the confidence that saw him climb up the rankings and challenge for UFC gold multiple times. And with the support of his home crowd, Masvidal might just be looking into another chapter of his long and illustrious MMA career.
