In the recent breakdown, Michael Chiesa and Paul Felder shared their thoughts on Leon Edwards’ victory over Colby Covington at UFC 296. Chiesa acknowledged Edwards’ win but expressed disappointment in the overall performance by both men.

Chiesa quickly questioned if Covington’s lackluster showing was due to ring rust, though he hesitated to use that term. He compared it to his comeback after a loss and injuries, emphasizing that Covington “laid an egg.”   While Felder stated that he felt that the “pace” of the fight was considerably slow, as he stated, “that was not a high paced fight.. that was a slow-paced fight.

However, Chiesa believes, Edwards, despite the win, didn’t showcase his full potential and stated, “And for Leon, it’s like you’re not winning over your fan base right now, you know, it’s like, it’s kind of a tricky situation you know, but I expected a lot more.”

According to Felder, the fight lacked intensity, as he stated, “It was as if they were sparring honestly”.  Chiesa also revealed, “I did not see a fight between two guys that hate each other. I did not see a fight between two guys where one guy was like, I’m gonna go kill this dude for talking about my dad…”

He also highlighted the absence of emotional engagement, expressing surprise that the intensity and desire to finish the fight were lacking.  In essence, Chiesa’s critique centers on the perceived underwhelming nature of the Edwards vs. Covington fight, questioning the lack of aggression, emotional investment, and finishing attempts, leaving fans and analysts alike wanting more from both competitors.

Nevertheless, with another win under his belt, Leon Edwards will be looking forward to facing the next contender for the title. And according to Jon Anik, there’s one on his mind who deserves the next shot at ‘Rocky’!
