At the main event of UFC 294, Alexander Volkanovski is all set to cross swords with Islam Makhachev. The Russian’s talent is hidden to none, and as expected, the Aussie is leaving no stone unturned to prepare for his short-notice fight. But recently, the fighter revealed a training session with someone people might not associate with fighting. For those unaware, the American tycoon was in talks about a possible MMA fight with Tesla CEO Elon Musk earlier this year.

Just days before his UFC 294 bout this weekend, Alexander Volkanovski joined popular UFC journalist Nina Marie Daniele for an interview. During the conversation, the City Kickboxing prodigy opened up on a multitude of topics, one of them being his training sessions with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Alexander Volkanovski reveals a session with Mark Zuckerberg, unveiling the ‘secret’ project

Although the fight didn’t materialize, both Zuckerberg and Musk spent time training with some big names in combat sports, one of them being UFC featherweight King Volkanovski and his teammates.

Talking about the said training sessions, Volkanovski recalls the use of “all the gear,” thus spilling the beans on a possible virtual reality-based combat sports training.

In Volkanovski’s own words, “It actually felt like I was sparring, even though I wasn’t making contact. I was hitting the sound and everything, and, like, the visuals. I don’t know, just, like, the movement. It was doing it somehow knew exactly what I was doing.”

To date, there have not been many official words on the project, though ever since the pictures first surfaced, there has been a lot of speculation. But given Zuckerberg’s recent interest in combat sports and meta, this isn’t far-fetched. But will it help Volkanovski during his fight this weekend?

No home ground advantage for the Aussie champion

For those unfamiliar, this is the second time the two men are facing each other inside the Octagon. The last time they clashed, the Dagestani got the win. However, before a team Khabib member got his hand raised, the fighter had to endure hell. Something that can’t be said about any of his previous UFC bouts, even the one in which he lost.

The last time Alexander Volkanovski and lightweight champion Islam Makhachev met, it happened in Volkanovski’s home country of Australia. However, this time the featherweight king will enjoy no such advantage as UFC 294 isn’t taking place in the land down under.

Instead, this time it’s Abu Dhabi that is hosting the event, a place where Islam first captured his crown. To date, the Dagestani remains undefeated amongst the crowd that seems to have a special place for the defending champ. Can Alexander Volkanovski triumph this time? If yes, then all gyms need to invest in Zuckerberg’s recent innovation.
