Former UFC double champ, Conor McGregor, hands down, has been the most influential figure in the sport. It has been quite some time since McGregor fought inside the octagon. And McGregor still has many fans anticipating his return in the coming months. But how would he perform after a long layoff?
Luck has not been in the favour of McGregor in the past years. The former double champ lost twice to Poirier in 2021 and has not fought since. People are skeptical about how he would perform after the layoff and former UFC middleweight champ, Michael Bisping, is one person who is skeptical of McGregor returning to his prime. Here’s what Bisping had to say.

Bisping’s take on why Conor McGregor won’t return to his prime
In a recent interview with ‘True Geordie’ Michael Bisping gave his take on McGregor returning. Bisping stated, “If he knuckles down, if he really knuckles down, he can come back and give a good account of himself, but I don’t think he’ll ever reach his prime again.”
However, ‘The Count’ did acknowledge the possibility of McGregor winning. Bisping mentioned, “Can he beat Michael Chandler? Sure, it’s two human beings. If he loses to Michael Chandler, it doesn’t really matter. If he beats Michael Chandler, he’ll probably fight for the belt, if he loses to Michael Chandler, he’ll probably fight Nate Diaz and if he loses to Nate Diaz, there’s a 4th fight with Dustin Poirier.”
Michael Bisping concluded his take on McGregor by stating, “Conor McGregor’s got options galore. He’s got ways to make money for the next few years and I guarantee, this is probably part of the problem for him. If you’re looking from the outside, he doesn’t give a f***. Because either way, he’s golden. He’s got money and granted at some point that’s going to run out but there’s massive massive fights that are always going to be at the fingertips of Conor McGregor.”
People aren’t really expecting ‘The Notorious’ to have a title run if he returns. Especially with his past two performances ending the way they did. However, we can’t count McGregor out of any fight.

Conor McGregor’s long-awaited return
As per McGregor’s longtime friend and coach, John Kavanagh, Conor McGregor seems really pumped about his potential fight with Michael Chandler next year. Kavanagh revealed that McGregor was restless to step inside the octagon. The duo is aiming for a possible return by the end of June.
Conor McGregor does seem to want a fight at UFC 300. However, the potential for that to play out is pretty slim. Everyone expects McGregor to make his return against Michael Chandler. So a clash between them would be absolutely dynamic. Recent videos of McGregor’s workout seem intense. So there is no doubt that the former UFC double champ is planning to return better than he was against Dustin Poirier.
