Dustin Poirier was offered another fighter

The Justin Gaethje fight was brutal for Dustin Poirier. As per ‘Diamond’, he felt clueless after the defeat and was unaware of what to do with his career in the UFC next. Poirier even went as far as claiming that he needed a fight that would get him out of bed. The former lightweight champion emphasized that he was expecting to be matched up against another former fighter, but to his surprise, the UFC did throw a different fighter his way.

While in conversation with ‘The MMA Hour’, Poirier explained that the UFC offered Nate Diaz to him but he was unsure about his return. “Conor [McGregor]  was never thrown out. We spoke about Nate [Diaz] a little bit, but I don’t think they are bringing him back. I’m not sure I wanna get into that stuff, but no other big names were thrown. I would have liked it to happen but I would like the UFC or Nate to be honest and tell the truth about why the fight fell apart because everybody thinks I pulled out”

He further explained that the reason why the fiasco happened at UFC 230 was because of Diaz’s miscommunication with the UFC. “I think, personally, you know, he [Nate Diaz] was playing a bunch against the UFC. They started offering me replacement opponents, telling me he was off the cards. I had a hip problem going on. I let the UFC know, everyone knows I was gonna fight if he was him, but if there’s a replacement fighter, I’m out.”
