‘I Feel Like I’m Going to Die’- Sean O’Malley Says He Faced a Lot of Issues During Weight Cut

Sean O’Malley is one of the hottest prospects in the UFC right now. Every time he is a part of a pay-per-view, we can expect it to do well in numbers. The fighter has had an incredible year in 2021, and he surely ended it with a bang.
As of January 2022, Sean O’Malley stands twelfth in the UFC’s bantamweight rankings. He is an absolute entertainer and a complete knock-out artist.
Recently, O’Malley appeared in an interview with the UFC legend, Michael Bisping. ‘Sugar’ opened up about his experience in his weight cut before his recent fight last year on the Michael Bisping Podcast.

O’Malley said,” that last fight camp I was walking around two-three pounds under the previous four or five camps and it was so nice. Because I was getting to a point where, like damn, I might have to go to 45. I feel like I’m going to die at weigh-ins. This last camp I was like two pounds less like the whole camp and it was really nice. I got, made weight, felt great.”
The fighter is talking about the training camp he had ahead of his fight against Raulian Paiva at UFC 269 in December. O’Malley defeated the Brazilian by an outstanding first-round knockout.

Every fighter needs some time to mentally and physically prepare themself before an MMA fight. Most fights are booked months in advance so that fighters have sufficient time to train and to cut weight.

He said,” realistically, I need eight weeks, you know. I would take a short-notice fight. I remember when Petr (Yan), or Aljo (Sterling) pulled out the first time, I think it was like four weeks. And I was trying to get that fight. Did I think I’d get it? No, was I serious about taking that fight on four weeks’ notice? Yes.”
