UFC welterweight star Khamzat Chimaev gets emotional while looking back at the mistakes he made in one of the biggest fights of his UFC career against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.

‘Borz’ is currently the most talked-about fighter in the welterweight division of UFC. Ever since his debut in UFC, the Russian-born Swedish fighter has been mauling his opponents inside the cage. He secured four back-t0-back wins after his debut. However, his skills got tested against a top-tier fighter in his fifth bout.

Chimaev faced the number two ranked welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns on the main card of UFC 273. The Chechen star carried a lot of hype going into the fight and was very confident about knocking out Burns. However, the Brazilian welterweight gave Chimaev a tough time inside the cage.

Both the welterweight combatants went all guns out for the whole three rounds. However, Chimaev had done enough to get a nod from the judges at the end of the fight. Although he won the bout, ‘Borz’ believed he made mistakes in the fight.

Right after the fight, Chimaev went back to his changing room and talked about the same as seen in the latest vlog he uploaded on his YouTube channel.

Chimaev said, “I feel sorry for coaches. They work hard with me. But I made mistakes. Go back watch my fight like I always do. I will work hard more energy. I need to be everywhere: black belt, striking, ground-and-pound, wrestling, grappling.”

“Whatever everything, I will fix everything now. One way I am happy and one way I am mad. I am mad because I couldn’t finish the guy.” Chimaev concluded.

Is a title shot next for Khamzat Chimaev?

‘Borz’ has been asking for a title shot ever since he bagged stunning wins in the division. However, before he wasn’t even in the top-15 of the division. But after defeating ‘Durinho’, Chimaev has leapfrogged the roster and now stands number three in the 170lbs division of UFC.

However, a title fight between the champion Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards is already in the talks. Hence, the Russian-born Swedish fighter will have to wait for his first UFC title shot.

By that time, Chimaev can face the number one contender Colby Covington. The latter is fresh from his recent win at UFC 272 and is looking to map his way back to the title. Hence, this fight will be a stepping stone to the title shot for both Chimaev and Covington.
