Chael Sonnen, for a section of fans, is the greatest trash-talker in UFC history. Conor McGregor may have overshadowed the Oregonian, so most fans, especially newer ones, believe him to be the best trash-talker in the promotion’s history. But Sonnen’s verbal destruction of his opponents still remains a glorious aspect of the entertainment side of the business.

But, Sonnen was a pioneer in the field, who was the first to deliberately play the villain in a successful attempt to attract eyeballs and create hype for his fights. ‘The Bad Guy’, as he christened himself, would go after the likes of Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva, and Jon Jones with his wit, humor, and sick burns. And while he may have lost to all these men, the build-ups to these fights are very memorable and well worth a watch today. However, Sonnen once accused Jones of a serious transgression and fans are still stunned by it.

Chael Sonnen accuses Jon Jones of PED usage before their bout

In an interview earlier this year, Ariel Helwani asked ‘Uncle Chael’ if Jones was clean when he fought him. Jones defeated Sonnen in the first round in their light heavyweight bout at UFC 159, a decade ago. ‘The Bad Guy’ said that Jones was not clean without any hesitation. The former title contender admitted to his own PED usage, and said that he was able to recognize Jones was on steroids because of this shared experience.

“I had more juice than Tropicana and he pushed me around like a Mac truck. As soon as we locked up with each other, as he is pushing me backwards, before he could come up with this big spinning elbow, I remember thinking, ‘I know your secret, cause I got the same one,'” Sonnen told the journalist.

Everyone is on juice.”

“Chael always makes outlandish claims like he can tell how much and what guys are on. I’m not saying Jon isn’t juicing, just that Chael lies constantly but is very entertaining.”

According to Sonnen, PED usage was a serious problem in the early days of the UFC with no USADA and fighters were permitted to undergo Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). But, the introduction of USADA has cleaned it up significantly. What do you think about Sonnen’s accusations? Tell us in the comments section below.
