Michael Chandler and Justin Gaethje went through a war when they met at UFC 268. In the lead-up to the fight, both men had promised a fight for the fans, and they delivered. From the start of the fight, they were going after each other, throwing bombs, and looking to hurt each other.

However, according to Michael Chandler, going toe-to-toe with Gaethje was not the game plan. He strayed away from the original game plan and even apologized to his wife for it.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani, he was asked if his initial idea was to be more tactical against ‘The Highlight.’ And if his opponent’s ability to draw his opponents into striking battles led him to change it. Chandler said, “It was, and I had to apologize to my wife because I told her what the game plan was. The game plan was; because I think I beat Justin Gaethje in a wrestling match nine times out of 10. And that’s not any disrespect to him. I just think my wrestling is better than his.”

“I could’ve used my wrestling more, I could’ve grabbed hands, under-hooked, grabbed the head. Could’ve made it a little bit more of a close-quarters type of fight instead of going out there throwing big shots. But once the fight started, I reverted back to who I am as a person. I reverted to what courses through my DNA, which is just fighting, man. And I loved it,” he added.

However, the fight had the fans on the edge of their seats throughout. Gaethje won the contest via a unanimous decision.

Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor might be in the making

After his loss to ‘The Highlight.’ ‘Iron’ took to Twitter, posted a picture of him and Conor McGregor having a face-off, and wrote, “2022.”

The tweet got a response from the former two-division UFC champion, who said, “I’m down at some stage for sure. Great fight the other night Mike, congrats!”

In the interview with Ariel Helwani, Chandler said that he wants to fight McGregor. However, it is not because of the reason everyone else wants to fight him for. ‘Iron’ credited ‘The Notorious’ for revolutionizing the sports of MMA and thinks people discredit him for some things he said. Chandler said, “To share the octagon with him, that’s why I want to do it. It’s not the payday, it’s not the red panty night, it’s not the thing that all these other fighters are chasing.”
