Former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz discussed some of the comments he made about Daniel Cormier before his recent bout. Ahead of his fight with Pedro Munhoz, ‘The Dominator’ delivered a scathing criticism of Cormier’s commentary, accusing Cormier of not watching enough fight film before commentating on a fight.
Cruz said, “When it comes to DC, I usually mute it. I love DC, he’s my friend, but to me from my experience, he doesn’t do the homework. He wants to get in and out, get the job done, make his money, and I think he cares about us, but it’s just different.”

Speaking after the fight, however, Cruz clarified his stance on the matter and said, “I don’t regret what I said (about Daniel Cormier), because I hadn’t eaten in three days, I hadn’t drank in two days, they’re asking me questions, I spoke from the heart.”
He further went on to say, “I never really regret what I say, because it wasn’t mean. I was very loving. What I regret, I guess, is where I said it. Maybe I shouldn’t have said it (at media day) because then that allowed the media to take it and do whatever they wanted with it.”
It is apparent that Cruz made those comments with ‘DC‘s best intentions at heart, wanting to hold his friend and colleague accountable to the high standard that is expected of him. However, considering how things played out, they may have been misconstrued.
Cruz further clarified his stance on the matter in an interview with Ariel Helwani. He said, “You and me both know I love Cormier, you love Cormier. How do you not love Cormier? He’s got a personality, a cult. This was a completely different conversation we had. … The point is what is the job of a caller analyst. Well, is it just to know of the top of your head what these guys do? Like put yourself in their position Cormier, would you want somebody to watch film before you fight?”
What’s next for Dominick Cruz?
Dominick Cruz put on a striking clinic against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 269. His footwork and head movement were on point, as he completely evaded Munhoz’s punches and kicks consistently. Although the former champ had a few rough moments in the first round and got rocked by his fellow veteran, he composed himself and took over the fight in the subsequent rounds.

Cruz’s style is truly enigmatic, and he has great wrestling too. He truly is a poor match-up for most in the bantamweight division. That being said, Cruz was called out by fighters like Marlon Vera and Sean O’Malley after his fight.
