‘I See Why People Die’: Dana White Preaches Humans to Lead a Meaningful Life in Response to a $100 Million Question

If it wasn’t for UFC President Dana White and the Fertitta Brothers, the MMA promotion wouldn’t ever be where it is today. The former owners of the organization played a critical role in building the sport of MMA and also help inject it into pop culture. What started as a small organization with just 3 weight classes, it has now evolved into a goliath with 12 different divisions.

Unlike the nascent days, the roster has swelled up with over 600 fighters signed to the promotion. UFC is no longer what it used to be and Dana White has played an instrumental role in its evolution.

This did not come east though, as even Dana White faced harsh times throughout his career, and working his way to the top wasn’t easy. He spoke about it in The Pivot Podcast and dismissed the popular notion of not working after you have amassed massive wealth.

White shares his thoughts on earning money and retirement

Former NFL player, Channing Crowder quizzed Dana White about having a lot of money. He said,” You give me, you give me 100 million. I am buying an island and sit on my a*s”

White retorted with his own example, explaining why this fantasy doesn’t make sense. He said,” You think you would, and everybody that’s watching this right now all has that fantasy. If I had this much money, I’d be sitting on an island somewhere, drinking a cocktail and whatever. How many days can you sit on the island and drink a f**g cocktail? Before you are like, ‘Man get me the hell outta here.”

White continued,” It’s just you can’t do it. I have been on two weeks’ vacation and I am like losing my mind & can’t wait to get back to work. We all have to be a part of something, we all have to get up and I don’t know…I like to win man, I like to win. I have to get up and try to win every day. And if I don’t… I see why people die after they retire, it makes total sense.”

Dana White claims money isn’t the pathway to happiness

The UFC head has seen it all in his time as the President of the organization and has fought through various periods of slump. He believes, that relaxing at a beach or even at a resort will soon drive you crazy and impact your mental health. He affirmed that human beings need to be a part of something, which can add meaning to their life.

It is impossible to wake up every day and do nothing. He drew comparisons with people who fail to keep things in order after they retire. Being affiliated with something larger than your life, only helps you remain motivated each day.
