“I Still Would Have Retired”- Jorge Masvidal Reveals the Real Reason Behind Retirement and It’s Not UFC 287 Loss

Jorge Masvidal has become a legend of the sport with a cult following. After his defeat to Gilbert Burns, ‘Gamebred’ announced his retirement from the sport in from his home crowd in Miami. The UFC veteran retired with 52 professional MMA fights and loads of amazing moments for the fans. Truly, the fan following of the UFC legend is a dream for many fighters to have.

Recently Masvidal opened up about his decision to retire from the sport. He said he would have retired even if he won the UFC 287 fight.

‘Gamebred’ retired after UFC 278 and explained the reasons for his decision to retire on ‘The MMA Hour’ with Ariel Helwani said. Masvidal said, “You know, a lot of factors went into that like, I wanted to see it I was praying to God that I’d have a great fight camp and get to the fight with no injuries so I could make like an accurate decision in my career.”

Furthermore, Masvidal added that he went through the camp with virtually no injuries. He added, “It was like literally one of my best fighting camps that I had.”

‘Gamebred’ also continued by saying that he was in good physical condition leading up to the fight. The welterweight added that he did not want any excuses after the fight.

‘Gamebred’ also made a shocking revelation that he would have called it the day even if the results had gone his way at UFC 287. The welterweight fighter added that he couldn’t shift his gear when he caught Gilbert Burns with some strikes.

Masvidal said, “Even like let’s say 10 seconds ago I would have got that story ending that Miami deserves and f*cking clipped this guy and put this guy to sleep like 10 seconds ago, I still would have retired. I still would have been like I don’t have it in me. Thank you, everybody for the victory, but you know this is not like me at my best, you know”
