42-year-old UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira recently announced that 2022 will most likely be his last year here at the UFC. Teixeira will take on the title challenger Jiri Prochazka on the 11th of June at the upcoming event of UFC 275.

According to Glover Teixeira, his perfect retirement plan will be to retire this November at Madison Square Garden after he beats Prochazka at UFC 275, in Singapore.

The champion recently appeared in an interview with famous MMA reporter Ariel Helwani. In the interview, he discussed his status on retirement and also praised Khabib Nurmagomedov for taking the perfect exit from the sport.

Teixeira said, “See Khabib man, I take my head off to Khabib when he retired at the top. It’s like there’s no motivation by money, you know. That’s okay if you make it 10-20 million. They offer him so much money. He’s not going back. Because he’s just done you know, he doesn’t have it, he doesn’t want to do it anymore. And uh and that’s going to be me the day that I don’t want to do it anymore”

Not only did he say he wants to be like how Khabib is after he hangs his gloves, Teixeira also took a shot at the former double division champion Henry Cejudo. Teixeira said, “I even mentioned Henry Cejudo. Nothing against the guy, I love the kid, but you see him retired. He knows he wants to come back. He knows he has something more. I don’t want to make this decision like that, but it would be a possibility.”

The Brazilian veteran has worked all his life to get to where he is today. After his massive win over Jan Blachowicz, Teixeira proved that age is just a number. In his recent interview with Ariel Helwani, the champion explained why he wants to retire while he is living his dream right now.

Teixeira said, “I love the fight life. I love the game. I love the camp life, you know, to be prepared for a fight. But also I’m 42 going up 43…It’s time to start thinking about it, you know. I want to retire from the sport. I don’t want the sport to retire me.”
