Kayla Harrison and Holly Holm will throw down at UFC 300. This match-up sent shockwaves to the MMA world and rightfully so. It is the first time the two-time Olympic Judo champion will make her walk to the cage under the UFC banner. Whereas, Holm has an opportunity to prove herself once again against a formidable opponent like Harrison.

However, it is unsure as to whether this match-up is placed on the main card or in the prelims. That being said, in a recent turn of events, an MMA insider teased that this fight might be pushed down. Who and on what basis? Let’s dive right in.

Holy Holm vs. Kayla Harrison: A prelim fight?

Chael Sonnen, a former UFC fighter and currently an analyst questioned if this fight would take place on the undercard of UFC 300. In his recent YouTube video, he confessed that he was stunned to know that this match-up was announced. However, given the fact Cody Garbrandt and Deiveson Figueiredo are fighting way on the undercard, it would not be unreasonable to guess that even this match-up be pushed down to the undercard or possibly prelims by Dana White. 

Reflecting on the same, he stated, “That was definitely a wow moment. Now I defined a wow moment as I did not see it coming. Nothing more than that. I think Kayla and Holly is an undercard fight, I think. But Garbrandt and Figueiredo two world champions—that is as close a super fight you can get. So there will be no insult to being on the undercard.”

The insight of the former UFC fighter is of great relevance, however, his claims have been proven wrong in the past. But in either instance, one thing is for sure and that is this card is stacked from bottom to top.

Meisha Tate, former champion and also opponent of Holm was stunned to see this bout taking place. This was to the extent that it prompted her to share the same on her Instagram account which boasts more than 2 million followers.

While thanking the MMA gods, she stated, “What in the MMA lords is going on,” and added, “This is exciting.” And it indeed is an exciting match-up. Not to mention, it will also indicate how Harrison fairs against an opponent of UFC caliber.
