

Dee Devlin has been alongside Conor McGregor throughout his meteoric rise in the UFC. The pair have been together for over a decade after they first met each other back in 2008. However, things were not always so great for the couple.

Before The Notorious One was changing the landscape of MMA he was living on welfare and fighting underground shows. However, Devlin was by his side during those tough times as she recalled how the situation was for her during that time.

Dee Devlin shares McGregor’s humble beginning
In an interview back in 2016, Devlin was asked how McGregor was before all the hype and fame of the UFC. She stated that he was always the same way he had been and that she knew he was going to become a star one day

“We always, always knew that this was gonna happen. It’s like it’s nearly likely we’re predicting the future. It’s weird to say that but we always knew that he was gonna get to that next level.” She said

Following this, the interviewer asked her if she felt the pressure increasing as he faced tougher opponents. She claimed that she indeed got more nervous with every fight, and revealed how she felt the first time she saw him fight. “The first time I went to see Conor it was like 50 people in a room, in a ring and I thought I’m gonna vomit like there’s no way you can get more nervous than this. Each time he just getting that more and more and I definitely as someone watching someone you care about getting in and it definitely gets me,” said Devlin.

The brutal nature of the sport does take it’s toll on the families of fighters along with them. However, Devlin was always by McGregor’s side, supporting him even during the lowest of lows.

The humble beginnings of Conor McGregor
McGregor wasn’t always the icon he is today. He started his MMA journey in the British promotion Cage Warriors. The Notorious One would then go to capture the Featherweight and Lightweight championships of the promotion. This led to him signing to the UFC where he turned into a superstar.

He reached his full potential after beating Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight championship and then beating Eddie Alvarez for the Lightweight championship making him the first double-champ in the history of the promotion.
