Joe Rogan is a trained fighter himself. While he has been commentating for the UFC for a long time, he almost had a fight scheduled once with actor, Wesley Snipes. He discussed the incident on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience‘, episode #1856 with guest, Nate Bargatze.

Bargatze mentioned the actor during the conversation and Rogan said, “I was supposed to fight him.”

“Yeah, I suppose, Wesley Snipes is about to go to jail for taxes and they were trying to figure out a way to make money and they came to this guy, Camel McLaren, who was one of the original producers of the UFC. And they wanted Wesley Snipes to fight Jean-Claude Van Damme.”

“This was their idea to have, like, a fight, an actual fight.”

Further, speaking about Snipes, Rogan said, “… he needed money. And we’re supposed to have a UFC fight. I trained for it for like six months. It was crazy. … They didn’t want Jean-Claude Van Damme…”

Rogan said that Snipes knew karate but hadn’t competed. The UFC commentator, however, is not just a trained fighter but has also competed in kick-boxing and taekwondo fights. Rogan additionally highlighted that he was a jiu-jitsu brown belt at that time, whereas Snipes didn’t know that form of fighting.

Joe Rogan: How did he plan to defeat Wesley Snipes?

The Wesley Snipes fight story is something Rogan has narrated previously, too. As reported by ‘The Mac Life‘ back in 2016, Rogan was quite confident in his jiu-jitsu abilities. He felt he could choke Snipes as he didn’t know jiu-jitsu.

Even in the conversation with Bargatze, Rogan was sure that if he grabbed his opponent, it would have been a deadly situation for him. He said, “If a brown belt jiu-jitsu, who’s really strong, gets a hold of you, you’re the same size as him. He’s [Snipes] actually a little smaller than me. So if I got a hold of him, he would have been f**ked.”

He compared it to CM Punk‘s performance in the UFC.
