The Nigerian is ranked first in the UFC men’s pound for pound rankings, as of November 2021. Usman is definitely one of the all-time great. No one in the UFC has fazed the champion, and he has established himself as the best in his division.

Earlier this weekend, Kamaru Usman retained his championship belt in a rematch against his biggest rival, Colby Covington. The first time the two fought, it was an extremely competitive match. Covington has been the only fighter who has actually given the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ a challenge in the octagon.

This time around, Usman was miles ahead of him in every aspect of the fight. After increasing his winning streak to 15, Usman is now just 2 wins away from beating Anderson Silva’s record. As of now, he is considered by many to be the best fighter in the sport.

After winning against Covington, Kamaru said in an interview about what he’s interested to do next.

What’s Next For ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’?

Usman hinted at a possible fight with the Mexican Boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez. He said, “I want to do something that scares me. Not guys I’ve kind of ran through. I wanna do something that scares me. And uh, you know, pound for pounding MMA, pound-for-pound boxing, you know. That shit scares me. And I like those, I’m down for those challenges.”

“Who in the world wouldn’t want to see that. You know we’re the brave one. I’m willing to step in there and do it. You know, of course they’re not willing to come this way but we’ll see.”

Will we ever see Kamaru Usman fight Canelo Alvarez?

Even though the UFC’s number one pound for pound fighter showed his interest in fighting Canelo Alvarez, it is very unlikely that this will ever happen. In an interview with TMZ Sports, the boxing legend was asked if he would be interested in fighting Kamaru Usman in a boxing match. Alvarez didn’t seem very interested in it.

The undisputed boxing sensation said,” It’s not make sense for me… I want to make history in boxing right, I don’t see anything right there.”

Even to the UFC president Dana White, it didn’t sound like a great idea. However, if this fight does ever go down in the future, it’ll be a treat for all combat sports fans.
