Many fighters paved the way to establish mixed martial arts as a sport. This is even more true when it comes to women competing in MMA. It took a handful of fighters to demonstrate how exciting the sport truly was.

One such fighter is Roxanne Modafferi. While she never won the UFC title, she had a great career with the promotion. Modafferi successfully competed in MMA for 18 years and fought about 45 times. She began her career when MMA didn’t have much recognition. Hence, she is one of the trailblazers in the sport and inspired several women to follow their calling.

‘The Happy Warrior’ is now 39-years-old and retires soon. Her career is something that many might envy. From fighting at Smackgirl and HOOKnSHOOT to UFC, Invicta FC, and Strikeforce, she has been all over the MMA arena for almost 2 decades.

Modafferi will be seen at UFC 271, which takes place on February 12. This will be her last fight. It surely will be an emotional bout for her and her fans who have been following her career for years. The flyweight fighter has a 25-20-0 record and unfortunately, in the last few years, she has experienced several defeats.

Before that, she experienced a rough patch in her career. From 2010 to 2013, she lost every single fight. However, she managed to leave that behind and get her career back on track.

Does Roxanne Modafferi have any regrets?

Modafferi is content with how her career panned out. But she does have one regret. Back in 2012, she faced her rival Takayo Hashi with a bad knee. Modafferi lost the fight through a unanimous decision.

She regrets fighting while injured. In an interview with The MMA Hour, she said (h/t MMA Fighting), “The match that I mentioned, Hashi, I hurt my knee, and then that same day, I got the fight offer to fight her. And I’d been waiting that fight offer so badly, so I said yes, figuring that my knee would heal.”

“But it didn’t…. And then I went in and I had a horrible fight, and I was afraid to step on my knee. So I regret taking the fight. I wish I had just- I was afraid I was never going to get another chance to fight her, so that’s the only regret I had.”
