Two near-death experiences changed the life of Lerone Murphy. Life was not easy for the UFC featherweight. Within 31 years of age, Murphy escaped death twice. The horrifying experiences changed him completely. The British Fighter was first shot in the face in 2013. Later, he got involved in a serious cycling accident. In 2013, when ‘The Miracle’ was at Fallowfield, someone came forward and shot him in the face. Murphy could not process what had happened to him as he became numb. Later, he could feel an unrecognizable heaviness in his mouth. It took him some time to realize that it was blood and bullets. Following the incident, the UFC featherweight was admitted to the hospital for two weeks. He also underwent surgery to replace the teeth that he lost during the attack.

Murphy was unable to have food of his own and was fed through a tube. The doctors failed to remove the bullet fully from his tongue. Before ‘The Miracle’ could overcome the emotional and physical damage caused by the accident, he faced yet another tragedy. While Murphy was cycling, a speeding car hit him. This caused a severe head injury. The ambulance only reached him after 40 minutes. However, Murphy miraculously survived both tragedies. When he looks back on what he went through at a young age, Murphy says that those experiences have changed his life completely and have made him a passionate MMA fighter.

Lerone Murphy details his near-death experience

A report from BBC Sport detailed Murphy’s near-death experience in his own words. Remembering the two tragedies of his life, Murphy said, “It’s weird because someone called my mum and I’m sat there waiting, and my mum is there, and I’m thinking ‘I’m going to die here now’, “I was bleeding out. I don’t know… I felt numb. Still numb, it’s weird. It’s just one of them things, like, if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen, but I don’t think I was scared.

"Like many, my journey into the beautiful game began by watching the mesmerizing Lionel Messi, as his impeccable vision on the pitch and role as a playmaker, meticulously calculating the path to goal always amazed me. This fascination with the finer details of soccer strategy naturally extended to my interest in content strategy. However, my zeal for being a soccer content analyst is not only because of Messi's magic, as I am a keen follower of the Becks as well. While in David Beckham, it was a special affinity for his mastery of crosses, passes, and set pieces, in Victoria Beckham, the fashion queen, I find inspiration in how she masterfully navigated the world of aesthetics and brand identity. This unique blend of admiration for both the tactical intricacies of soccer and the world of fashion and entertainment helps me to cover the game from angles that seamlessly balance sport and entertainment. Before joining EssentiallySports, I worked as a content analyst as well. A Master's degree in English and Comparative Literature from a premiere institute has helped me hone my writing skills and given me a unique perspective on the world of sports. Interestingly, besides soccer, I also extensively covered UFC, especially the Joe Rogan podcast. In my free time, I enjoy reading and keeping up with the latest developments in the world of sports.
