Rory MacDonald fought and lost a controversial battle against his opponent, Gleison Tibau. This was a PFL 5 event that featured two top Welterweights in the main event. Both the fighters competed for three hard-fought rounds. Rory Macdonald was the more active fighter, throwing more volume throughout the fight. Whereas his opponent the Brazilian Gleison Tibau was throwing bombs but couldn’t add up the quantity with his strikes. In the end, two out of three judges scored the fight in favor of Tibau. This came in as a shock for a lot of fight fans because the majority of people had the Canadian winning.

After the fight got over, Rory Macdonald reacted to his controversial loss by saying, “I’m very disappointed, I believe and everyone I talked to, everybody online, scored the fight for me, even three rounds to zero. So I think it was a clear robbery. I thought I was dominant in this fight. It was a hard fight. Gleison brought it and respect to him, but I believe that I clearly won that fight and I think this should be looked into.”

‘Red King’ continues, “I was totally sure I won I was so surprised when the first judge they announced scored it for him. I was shocked. But when I heard the split decision that he got, I was blown away. I mean, what do you say? I mean I didn’t see it that way at all.”

The Judges scorecards for Rory MacDonald vs Gleison Tibau

Judge Eric Colon gave ‘Red King’ the first and the second round and scored the fight as 29-28 in the favor of MacDonald. Cardo Urso and Dave Tirelli gave their decision in the favor of the Brazilian. Both the judges scored the first and third rounds for Gleison Tibau. Marking it as a 29-28 win for Tibau on their respective scorecard.

Gleison Tibau got three points for his victory and now is at the number seven spot in the playoffs table. Whereas Rory MacDonald is in the second position with six points under Joao Zeferino. For now, MacDonald is safe at number two therefore he will proceed with the playoffs in the Welterweight division.
