On the latest episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, the topic of discussion was the age-old debate among movie lovers about who played the best Joker. The character is undoubtedly one of the most iconic comic book villains, and his nature is incredibly complex. Over the years, there have been several actors who played the role of the DC madman, but not all of them shone through. The argument always centers around Heath Ledger‘s portrayal in the 2008 movie ‘The Dark Knight’, which is considered the best by many. And owing to the measures the late Australian actor went to play the role, that is unimaginable.
However, Joe Rogan broke away from the popular opinion and offered his own perspective on the matter. The UFC commentator noted the fact that there have been a number of ‘fun’ portrayals of the fan-favorite villain, but not many have been able to strike the right chord with him. Except for one, which Rogan deemed to be the ‘creepiest’ of all.

Heath Ledger isn’t the best Joker for Joe Rogan
During episode #1947 of the JRE, Joe Rogan was joined by fellow comedian, Chris Distefano. The two went on to discuss yet another comedian friend of theirs, Tony Hinchcliffe, for his ‘medieval’ looks. The UFC commentator said that if he were a prince with a murderous brother whom he was trying to stop, that brother would look exactly like Hinchcliffe.
Rogan further remarked how Tony Hinchcliffe would be the greatest Joker of all time, on a par with Heath Ledger. And the conversation there on shifted to the DC villain. The 55-year-old stated, “There have been so many Jokers. You know, I won’t even say that Heath Ledger’s the best because I think Joaquin Phoenix is the best. He is the creepiest. He is the most like, profound.”

Rogan further added, “Jack Nicholson, one was fun. It was a lot of fun ones. But the Joaquin Phoenix one was like, holy sh*t.”
However, as impressed as Joe Rogan is, he couldn’t believe that Joaquin Phoenix can be ‘that good’ when he first saw ‘Joker’.
When talking about ‘The Batman’ in an episode with Brendan Schaub, the 55-year-old expressed his failure to comprehend how Joaquin Phoenix portrayed the Joker. Rogan‘s appreciation for Phoenix was to a point where he thought the actor was an ‘insane’ person.

Rogan said, “Joaquin Phoenix’s crazy as f**k… He’s so good. He must be insane. He must be like an absolute insane person. There’s no way he could be that good…”
It may be arguable, but Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker indeed stands right up there with Heath Ledger for many if not past that.
