UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal sat down with Ariel Helwani from ESPN, heading into his title fight rematch against Kamaru Usman. ‘Gamebred’ is gearing up for his 50 professional fight and possibly his last opportunity to fight for undisputed gold. However, given the way his career has shaped up, it’s probable he could land another marquee opportunity.

What’s more, title fights aren’t the only avenues available to Masvidal who is now a bonafide star in the sport. Chiefly, Masvidal was actually expected to return to action against Colby Covington after coaching against him on TUF. However, plans for a Masvidal-Covington-led ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ season fell through, and now Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega stepped up.

Jorge Masvidal x Colby Covington: Perennial bad blood

The ATT standout revealed to Helwani that coaching against Colby Covington wasn’t something he had given top priority to. In fact, Masvidal echoed a rather dark sentiment towards his rival that involved jail time if he actually had to spend time with Covington. Both men are clearly not fond of each other, however, their disdain has certainly grown as of late.

“That was never an official call. They were throwing things out, everybody is calling me out, everybody wants to fight me. They are throwing numerous things out at a time. Me being a coach on The Ultimate Fighter with Colby was probably never going to happen because I was for sure going to end up in handcuffs.”

Regardless of the feud, there’s no doubt that a season of TUF with Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington at the helm would qualify as must-see TV. They have a deep-seated hatred for each other that has transcended the realm of professional combat. They will definitely cross paths against each other, and the UFC will ideally like their scrap to be for gold.
