‘I’d Love to Fight Francis Ngannou’- UFC Legend and Hall of Famer Don Frye Wants a Comeback Fight

UFC Hall of Famer Don Frye joined Joe Rogan on an episode of his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. Both men went over several topics about the world of MMA and Frye dropped a bombshell during their sit down. Don Frye revealed that he was planning to make a comeback to MMA, and he even named his opponent.

The 55-year-old former pro wrestler revealed that he wanted to face off against Francis Ngannou in his return match-up. The news surprised Joe Rogan, who asked Frye why he didn’t want to fight someone closer to his own age.

Don Frye revealed that he wanted to fight a titleholder and wasn’t interested in anything less. He also revealed that he had to get some work done on his back before making a comeback.

“I’d like to [compete again]. I’m going to go down there to Columbia and the plan on that is to do that and hopefully make a comeback. Sh*t yeah. I’d love to fight Ngannou, yeah, he’s amazing.”

“Why? [Should I fight someone my age] They don’t have the belt, do they? If I get my back fixed up, I’m there. I’ve had probably 5 or 6 major back surgeries and then 15-20 related [surgeries] cause infections and things like that. And the infections tried to get me a couple of times…One time I had it inside the spinal cord.”

Don Frye: One last run?

While it’s not uncommon to see fighters come out of retirement in MMA, Don Frye making a comeback may be a stretch. The former pro wrestler last competed in MMA back in 2011 and left the sport on a two-fight skid.

Chiefly, the sport has evolved greatly since his days in the sun and many believe that the game has passed him by. Not to mention, he’s suffering from several back-related injuries that would make it impossible to implement his wrestling.

His comments about facing Ngannou in a comeback fight remain a mere fantasy as it stands. However, the Hall of Fame fighter may truly look to return to active competition.
