“If MMA Was Boxing… Floyd Mayweather Will Be Bending the Knee to Me”- Henry Cejudo on ‘$50-60 Million’ Loss

The pay difference in boxing and MMA is drastic. Moreover, the difference in PPV sales, fighters, divisions, etc. plays a part in the pay difference between the two of the most brutal and highly entertaining combat sports. Many from the combat sports world draw the comparison about fighters’ pay difference in both sports, and Henry Cejudo is one of them. 

Talking to MMA Junkie’s Danny Segura about a potential return to MMA, he highlighted the various aspects of the pay difference if he were in boxing. In doing so, he also took a shot at Floyd Mayweather.

When asked about what pay figure Triple C was looking for, here’s what he had to say about it. “No, that number is between me and Dana and the company man. I’m not going to throw them, I’m not, I don’t want to throw them out on the bus like that. I don’t want to do it like that because that’s just not good business.”  

Talking about how the pay would compare to boxing, Cejudo stated, If MMA was boxing, I’d be making 50-60 million. Yeah, Floyd Mayweather will be bending the knee to me.

Henry Cejudo and Dana White: Frictional problems 

Business deals and fights have one thing in common; A need for proceedings to go smoothly. This isn’t happening between Henry Cejudo and Dana White. Slight misconception fighters usually have is that the more you run your mouth, the greater media attention you garner.

That is true, but only to a degree. At the end of the day, no one likes their competence to be challenged by the media. Henry Cejudo believes that he might have run his mouth a little more than needed towards Dana White, the president of the UFC, to pay him for a good fight.

Dana White, however, is least interested in Cejudo returning as there are various other fighters. Therefore, since White holds all the cards, Cejudo faces nothing but the odds.

Multiple Pathways and Ventures for Triple C

Getting a huge payday is not the only road for Triple C to enter back into the game. After all, Dana White would love to have Cejudo back, just not anywhere remotely close to the money level that Cejudo wants.

If the Olympic medalist would compromise for a way smaller pay, chances are, he’d make it back into the UFC. Moreover, fighting isn’t the only path available for the former Olympic wrestler. He is training various other champions and contenders, offering an excellent path to a lucrative career.

But Triple C seems to be a lot more interested in returning, wanting a huge piece of the pie.
