Chael Sonnen has his take on the rematch between Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya. The former UFC fighter, in a recent interview, was asked about the rumored rematch between the two. And if there will be any difference in Whittaker’s approach.

In the interview with Submission Radio, Sonnen said, “When you do a rematch, us the audience must be ready to answer one question which is, what is going to be different? Is one of these athletes doing something different so they can reasonably expect to get something different? And in the case of Whittaker, yes. And I can point to it and you got to look no further than Whittaker’s fight against Kelvin Gastelum. Whittaker took Kelvin down four times in that fight. Nobody thought Whittaker would go for a single takedown. He went for four and he got them and he held Kelvin there.”

“Whittaker has put in the time in the room with guys like Craig Jones. He is learning the ground game; he is adding that extra wrinkle. And if Whittaker can just threaten Adesanya with a takedown, it will at least change the hands… Yes, that’s a different fight in my opinion and Whittaker with the takedown and new wrestling skill has proven it’s a different fight.”

‘The Last Stylebender’ and ‘The Reaper‘ last fought at UFC 243 when Whittaker was the champion. Adesanya, from the very start, had the champion in trouble and knocked him in the second round to win the title. Since then, the Nigerian-born New Zealand fighter has defended his title three times and even challenged for the UFC light heavyweight title. Whittaker, on the other hand, has also entered the octagon and looked impressive.

What is the situation with the rematch?

Robert Whittaker recently took to Instagram to tease a title shot. He wrote, “11 weeks #AndNew @ufc @ufcanz.”

However, according to Adesanya‘s coach, no contract has been signed as off now. In an interview with Submission Radio, he said, “I haven’t seen a contract, Robert hasn’t seen a contract. Rob and his people, his wonderful manager, can’t secure the fight. They’re panicking, so they put out these stupid tweets and this and that. Just relax boys, just train, that’s all we are doing. We’ll handle the business side of things, and if this is the direction the fights gonna go, towards Robert, then we’ll secure it for you.”
