Movsar Evloev is yet another undefeated featherweight fighter who is currently highly active in the division. Why is that important? Because the new undefeated champ, Ilia Topuria, wants a fight for himself and so far, he’s called out at least two icons who are either retired or currently inactive.

That’s right, one of Ilia Topuria‘s first targets was none other than the former featherweight champion ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor. Many know that McGregor is currently away from competition and he’s been away since 2021. Who else did Topuria call out and what’s the deal with Evloev? Let’s break things down.

Movsar Evloev wants a piece of Ilia Topuria’s confidence

Movsar Evloev recently took to his X profile to taunt the reigning champion. This was over a clip of him being interviewed about his dream fight. The Spaniard responded with the one name that was on his mind and it was none other than McGregor’s own arch-nemesis, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

‘The Eagle’ last fought in 2020 against Justin Gaethje and, after successfully submitting him, retired from the cage for good. Evloev makes a good point through observation. He accused Topuria of calling out fighters who aren’t around. So he did the only logical thing and issued a call out of his own.

Conor, Islam, Khabib, Mayweather, Muhammad Ali, Messi… Who else do you want to fight rather than the only undefeated fighter in your division? @Topuriailia,” he tweeted over a clip of the interview. He points out hilariously how Topuria seems to follow a pattern. He also pointed out how Islam Makhachev was also in the mix of the recent callouts.

There are, however, many who would like to go against ‘El Matador’ thanks to him being the rightful champion now. The list keeps getting longer and longer with each Fight Night or PPV event that the UFC puts out. In recent history, even Brian Ortega showed his desire to compete against the champ on one condition.

Ortega is willing to fight in Spain but what about ‘Volk’?

Brian Ortega recently secured a submission win over Yair Rodriguez at UFC Mexico. The victory came after a lot of back and forth that went on for two rounds before he could get his arm-triangle choke around ‘El Pantera’ in the third.

After the fight, Ortega told the press that he’d be more than happy to go to UFC Spain if Alexander Volkanovski decides to “chill” and take a break after the vicious UFC 298 knockout loss. So now we have yet another challenger for Ilia Topuria to tackle.

But let’s face it, perhaps the one closest to a match is still Alexander Volkanovski who legitimized his championship reign by dominating the featherweight division for well over 4 years. A rematch for his title makes sense, so perhaps the UFC will make it happen. Who do you want to see fight the champion next? Can Ilia Topuria prove his might again regardless of the opponent?
