‘The Highlight’ Justin Gaethje hasn’t fought since his UFC 254 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov. The former WSOF lightweight champion got his first shot at UFC gold against ‘The Eagle’ but fell short. He is currently looking for an opponent for his next dance and, there is an array of options available with the current state of the UFC lightweight division.
Charles Oliveira is on the rise. Former Bellator champion Michael Chandler had a fantastic debut too at UFC 257. A rematch against Dustin Poirier or a fight against Conor McGregor is a great option for Gaethje, too. There is also the return of Nate Diaz looming large over the 155 lbs division of the UFC, but Gaethje believes he would obliterate Diaz should they fight.

In a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Gaethje said, “[If] they called me to fight Nate Diaz, I am fighting Nate Diaz. I will roll him up and smoke him like a blunt. I can smoke Nate Diaz every day of the week. I guarantee that. I’m not very proud of that. But he’s Mr. 420. I’ll roll him up and smoke him.”
Gaethje has the style of a brawler. So has Nate Diaz. Both fighters are versatile in their striking and grappling and are comfortable wherever the fight takes place. They are extremely durable as well.
‘The Highlight’ who defeated Tony Ferguson in 2020 and got his shot at the UFC gold and is vying for another chance to capture the championship, currently.
Is Justin Gaethje vs Nate Diaz the fight to make?
With Diaz seemingly returning to lightweight, the division has been put on notice. There won’t be any shortage of takers for the Stockton native, and a fight against Gaethje will be a delight.

Absolute carnage will ensue, and a battle for the ages could unfold. But, with Gaethje sitting near the top of the lightweight division, it is unlikely Diaz will be matched up against him upon his return. ‘The Highlight’ will probably take on other top contenders like Chandler or Oliveira first.
