Tony Ferguson has always been in and around the title picture at the lightweight division. ‘El Cucuy’ has faced the best of the best at 155 pounds and has almost always come out on top. His 12-fight win streak included wins over the likes of Edson Barboza, Anthony Pettis and, ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

However, Tony has never been able to fight for the undisputed title. Misfortune has always played its part and ensured that for some reason or the other, the title remained just out of his reach. Nonetheless, Ferguson has fought for and won the interim title once. In May this year, he hoped to win it once again against Justin Gaethje

Khabib Nurmagomedov, in a recent interview, said a few things that did not sit well with ‘El Cucuy’. Speaking on Tony’s recent loss, Khabib called him “stupid” and said that he is “finished” because of the amount of damage he absorbed in that fight.

This did not bode well with Ferguson, who Tweeted saying, “@TeamKhabib @Justin_Gaethje I’ll see you soon, Fathead. You Can’t Run Well & Conditioning Sucks. Only reason you feel bad is because you did bad. I Own You, Chicken # 200k & 20Pushups For The Homeless. U Two Are Managed By @AliAbdelaziz00 I’ll Make It A Point To See You Both”

Tony Ferguson hoped to become a two-time interim champion in May against Justin Gaethje and extend his streak to 13. However, the fight did not go as planned. ‘The Highlight’ put on arguably his best performance to date against Tony.

He landed a staggering 143 significant strikes over the course of the fight with an accuracy of 72%. Gaethje could also land 100 punches to the head, leaving Tony Ferguson a bloody mess. It was without a doubt the most damage Ferguson had ever absorbed in a fight.

Ferguson turns 37 early next year. There is cause for concern that recovery from a beat-down might take more time given his age. However, Tony seems adamant that he is still the very best at 155 pounds.

Do you think Tony Ferguson is finished? Or do you think ‘El Cucuy’ has it in him to bounce back and mount another title challenge?
