Tony Ferguson has always been in and around the title picture at lightweight. However, ‘El Cucuy’ has never attained the ultimate goal in the sport. He won the interim title but never got a chance to unify the belt. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have been scheduled five times now, and the fight has called off on every single occasion. This is probably one of the most cursed fights from a fan’s point of view.

At UFC 249, Ferguson’s title fight became an interim title fight against Justin Gaethje. A win would see him earn a fight against Khabib for the sixth time. However, Justin had plans of his own. He came in with a meticulous game plan and executed it to perfection to win the belt and earning a title shot against Khabib at UFC 254

Tony Ferguson has beaten almost all top talents at lightweight, which makes it harder to get him an opponent. However, the likes of Dan Hooker and Charles Oliveira can be good potential matchups for him. MMA fans will hope to see Ferguson back fighting as soon as possible.

What do you make of Tony wanting to move up to get a fight? If the former interim champion were to stay at lightweight, who would you like to see him fight next?
