Charles Oliveria spoke to Sherdog about his imminent return to the cage that will come with his first title defense. ‘Do Bronx’ is slated to take on Dustin Poirier in December and is looking to make a statement against the former interim champion. Some fans consider Poirier to be the uncrowned champion and Oliveira wants to lay waste to that claim.

The Brazilian champion revealed the way in which he believes he will get the job done against Poirier. Furthermore, he’s not worried about an opponent change in the event that Poirier ends up facing Conor McGregor again. Charles Oliveira has concerned himself with being prepared for December regardless of who stands opposite the cage from him.

“Today I’m not worried about who said bad things about me, or who I’m gonna fight against,” Oliveira said. “My main concern is be ready to face any challenger [the] UFC chooses, and that’s what I’m gonna be in December, against Poirier or any other.

“Poirier is one of the most dangerous guys of the lightweight division,” Oliveira admitted. “[He] always walks forward, but I think I’m at a different level, both in striking and also in the ground.”

Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier: A Fight of the Year candidate?

Stylistically, Oliveira vs Poirier is a classic striker vs grappler when simply looking at their respective body of work in the UFC. However, the fight is competitive no matter where it goes as both men are adept at every possible range.

In fact, Oliveira won the title against Michael Chandler via TKO despite being known primarily as a submission specialist. As for Poirier, he prefers to keep the fight standing but his fundamentals on the ground are second to none.

All in all, fight fans can expect a fiery battle from pillar to post, as both men want to reign supreme. The winner of this bout will definitely be looked at as the best lightweight fighter on the planet and that’s plenty of incentive going in.
