Alexander ‘The Great’ Volkanovski captured everyone’s attention with his defining win at UFC 266 over Brian Ortega. The City Kickboxing stand-out picked up a near clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards as he dismantled ‘T-City’ from start to finish. What’s more, the 25-minute war was full of exciting sequences and the entire MMA community was buzzing after the fight concluded.

However, former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo wasn’t too impressed with Volkanovski’s efforts under the bright lights.

After Volkanovski’s win, he took to Twitter and called out the former Rugby player saying it was now time for the UFC to make the fight between them. Cejudo has talked about coming out of retirement to contest for the featherweight belt for a meaningful period of time now.

Alexander ‘The Great’ was asked to comment on Henry Cejudo’s comment and he immediately brushed it aside. This didn’t sit well with ‘Triple C’ who immediately decided to blast Volkanovski on Twitter as he doubled down on his call-out.

Volkanovski vs Cejudo?- A marquee clash in 2021?

In a climate of super fights, a clash between a current and a former champion would be a huge deal for the MMA community. The possible match-up would go a long way to answer questions about the place of both men in the all-time great rankings.

‘Triple C’ has teased a return to fighting for a long time and Volkanovski would be the best candidate to come back to. The narrative of chasing his third UFC title upon returning would be one that would immediately appeal to the MMA community.

As for Alexander ‘The Great’, he’s on a mission to separate himself from his controversial split decision title fight victory against Max Holloway. His win against Ortega was merely the first step in his journey to set the record straight. Henry Cejudo has a massive fanbase and Volkanovski would finally get the high-profile recognition he has been waiting for.

As of now, the fight is merely a distant possibility, however, it’s possible that UFC fans could witness the return of ‘Triple C’ soon.
