Despite managing to get the better of his opponent, Jared Gordon, both Pimblett and the UFC had to face a lot of criticism from fight fans and experts. Pimblett’s win was also questioned by the famed UFC Welterweight and Conor McGregor’s countryman, ‘Ian Machado Garry’.

Pimblett went on to win the bout via a unanimous decision. But Garry, like a lot of other fans and experts, thought that the decision should’ve gone in favor of Gordon.

Ian Machado Garry was disappointed by the decision going in favor of Paddy Pimblett

‘The Future’, like a lot of others, was accepting of the judge’s decision in favor of Pimblett. He also took to Twitter to vent out his views on the outcome of the Pimblett vs Gordon fight. ‘Conor McGregor’s countryman wrote, “Paddy is a star we all see the ‘it factor’ but as a fan of the sport I’m disappointed by that decision #UDGORDON”.

It was apparent from his words that he lauded the ways how Pimblett had become a fan favorite in such a short span of time. He also implied that Pimblett was a huge prospect already, which would probably get even bigger as time progresses.

But it was the decision made by the judges which disgusted him. All three judges at the ringside scored the bout 29-28 in favor of “The Baddy”. A lot of other MMA personalities and media houses thought like Garry.

A lot of others except Ian Machado Garry also saw Paddy Pimblett as the vanquished one

The noted MMA-covering media house, ‘MMAFighting.com’ reported that 23 out of 24 media houses covering MMA had adjudged Gordon as the victor of the bout. Further, 11 out of the 24 houses were of the opinion that Gordon had defeated Pimblett in all three rounds of the bout.

The noted MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, also disregarded the judge’s decision to award the bout to Pimblett. He went on to tweet, “What did y’all think of that decision?”. He also opinionated, “It was 29-28 at worst for Jared Gordon. Thought he won the first and third. Could make a case for second, too. Pretty incredible not a single judge had it for him? How’s that possible?”

It’s not the first time that the MMA community has revolted against the authority regarding their miserable decision-making. But, incidents like these would be disappointing for both the UFC, who would lose their credibility and the fight fans, who would lose their interest.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
