Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan: A twist in the tale

News recently broke that Aljamain Sterling’s removal from the aforementioned title fight wasn’t by his own choice. He was not injured heading into the fight, and indeed wanted to compete against Yan to bookend their rivalry. However, it was the medical team of doctors who did not clear Aljamain Sterling to fight after neck surgery.

After undergoing neck surgery, fighters usually need a year on the sidelines to effectively recover and grapple freely. ‘The Funkmaster’ tried to expedite the process and it clearly hasn’t panned out the way he initially intended it to. He will likely get clearance to fight only in the first quarter of 2022.
