Former women’s 135-pound champion Holly Holm will make her second octagon appearance in 2020 against Irene Aldana. The aforementioned bantamweights serve as the headlining feature for UFC on ESPN that will take place on October 3, 2020. Chiefly, Holm spoke out to Mike Bohn and expressed her views on the ever-dangerous Aldana.

The Preacher’s Daughter’ will need to build momentum in the division after splitting wins and losses as of late. The bantamweight division is being spearheaded by Amanda Nunes, and she has held a stranglehold over the division. To counter this, the UFC is keen to bring around game challengers to make compelling match-ups for the supremely dominant champion, and Holm will look to prove she is still a legitimate contender.

Holly Holm has her work cut out for her on Fight Island

Holly acknowledged that Irene Aldana posed a viable threat to her and brings forward a pressuring skill set. Not to mention, Aldana most recently walked right through Ketlen Vieira with a monstrous KO that caught MMA fans’ attention. Moreover, Holm did a deep dive into the mind-set that makes a fighter incredibly dangerous.

“A lot of people did not see the fight going that way. A lot of people saw Vieira as being undefeated for a long time. That’s a huge win and I think that shows something not just something technical wise but also a psychological part. She didn’t walk in there feeling defeated, she went in there with all the confidence in the world that she was gonna win and I think that that’s what makes a fighter very difficult when they really believe in themselves.”

The 13-5 fighter in Holm has been inconsistent in her recent outings and has suffered some disappointing losses, albeit to top competition. She expressed an awareness of the challenge that Irene brought to the table.

She said, “I know I have my work cut out for me. With that being said I know I’m gonna be taking on the best Irene Aldana yet and it’s not gonna be enough because I truly believe I am… have a lot to show with my career and that’s what I’m planning on doing.”

MMA fans and pundits would favor Holly Holm, given her world-class ability as a counter striker. Aldana favors pressure boxing in range and will have to be wary of the former champion’s devastating arsenal of kicks. Additionally, the winner of the fight will find themselves on the cusp of contention against the famed divisional champion.
