Multiple-time PFL tournament winner Kayla Harrison recently spoke to MMA Fighting as free agency looms over her already illustrious career. Harrison is arguably a force in the women’s division and she’s keen to take over the sport. In fact, Harrison has already laid her claim to retire one day as the best female fighter the sport has ever seen.

In order to accomplish that feat, the Judo sensation would have to compete under the banner of the UFC. The all-time greats in women’s MMA like Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey, and Miesha Tate, all had remarkable stints in the company. However, Kayla still hasn’t been able to find her way into the promotion due to several conflicting factors.

Kayla Harrison is eager to please the UFC boss

Harrison revealed that she would like to fight in the UFC and has taken it upon herself to impress UFC kingpin Dana White. She believes that once she makes herself undeniable in the eyes of White, her goal of becoming a UFC champion will follow soon after. Chiefly, she equated her position as a worthwhile investment that would pay dividends in the long run, much as Ronda Rousey was back in her day.

“Dana has said a lot of things before,” Harrison said. “It’s my job. If I want to fight in the UFC someday, if I want to fight at featherweight for the UFC some day, then it’s my job to prove to him that I’m worth the investment and I’m worth the risk.

“All I can do is to continue to go out there and be so dominant and continue be so good that you can’t ignore me. I know that I’ll do that. He says a lot of stuff and I know that I’m going to make him eat his words and he’ll smile when he does it and it will be great. I’m not worried about it. That time is coming.” [h/t MMA Fighting]

Thus far, Dana White has appeared lukewarm on the idea of having Harrison on board due to the possible dismantling of the women’s 145-pound. The absence of contenders on the official UFC rankings page speaks volumes as to the current state of the division. However, some fans believe Kayla Harrison could be the star that galvanizes the UFC to review the featherweight division.
