Khabib Nurmagomedov is the most accomplished fighter in UFC history. ‘The Eagle’ has an incredible MMA record of 29-0 and hasn’t competed in the UFC since October 2020. In his last fight Nurmagomedov faced Justin Gaethje at UFC 264 and won via a 2nd round submission.

Since then Nurmagomedov has been retired and despite many requests to come back for one more match, ‘The Eagle’ has stuck to his decision. Nurmagomedov officially vacated the UFC lightweight title on March 19, 2021, and went on to open his own MMA promotion back in Russia.

Nurmagomedov’s decision to retire came after the unfortunate demise of his father.’The Eagle’ then promised his mother that he won’t return to the Octagon without his father.

During a recent interview, they asked Nurmagomedov about why people find it hard to believe that he won’t return to the Octagon and whether he would return if his mother says so.

Nurmagomedov said, “I think because of age too, I am only 32 years old and like people gonna talk about this; I think for maybe next 7,8 years. Because for MMA, like a lot of guys like on the top, even till they are 37, 38, 39, they still on the top and people gonna talk about this like all the time I think.”

‘The Eagle’ also talked about how the reason behind his retirement is not one and it boils down to many things. He said, “No, this is about everything. I just finished.”

Despite efforts from Dana White and various other fighters to call Nurmagomedov back. ‘The Eagle’ seems content with his decision to retire and has no plans of returning to action.

According to Nurmagomedov, he has no desire to return and compete against anyone. Although fans have often wanted to see a fight between ‘The Eagle’ and Georges St-Pierre. Many people often believe GSP and Nurmagomedov to be the greatest fighters in UFC history.

Therefore, there have been many requests from fans to see a match between the two legendary fighters. Recently GSP had himself expressed desire of facing Nurmagomedov, but alas ‘The Eagle’ turned down the offer as he is content with his retirement.
